Who Dares To Cross It Now?

We don't go there. They don't come here. That's how it has always been and we've been quite happy that way. We don't go there. They don't come here.

You see, their ways are not our ways. We hear much on the news about their customs. Their ways are quite peculiar. Alien to speak the truth. We cherish our ways. We love our families. Our friends are dear to us you know. We are a very peaceful and orderly people. They are trouble. A lot of trouble.

We'll never dress the way they dress. We'll never eat what they eat. Who eats such things? The way they walk is silly. Have you seen the way they walk? The way they sing is weird. From all that I know, they mix and meddle in ways we don't mix. And we don't meddle. They seem to be very strange in that way. We don't embrace such ways. It is really not a matter of whether they like us or not; they are all-together too strange to us. We have our proven ways.

Plus, you see, God placed the river exactly where it is. Between them and us! That river has been foreverlong between them and us. Why mess with it? We didn't put the river there. God did. Shouldn't we respect what God has done? Shouldn't they? Shouldn't we all regard God's way?

We don't go there. They don't come here. That's how it has always been.

(see song: bridge over troubled waters)

Until that bridge! And that song! Why? Why trouble the waters?

Still waters run deep. We all ought to know not to mess with still waters.

But no. They had to build a bridge. Or whoever did! And why that bridge? Why there? You tell me.
