Our woman of the year will come as no surprise. Her intelligence, indomitable spirit and generous personality continuously assault the grinch and snob in any or all of us. She is everyone's cousin. Everyone knows her name. Some call her America's Beloved Best Friend.

Who is she?
When Katrina exposed the rotten underbelly of our nation - we who so loudly prop ourselves as the supreme example of freedom, humanity and opportunity - she proved that beneath the loud, empty clang and cackle there are still some that hold the principles of the dream rather dear, some, who will reach out instead of lash out, some, who do not regard men, women and children that are forced, abandoned or relegated to disprivelege as eyesores exposed to the vengeful wrath of an angry god, but rather as God's children, God's sons and daughters, whose presence, whose plight in times like these shines a bright beacon on the nature of all of our spirits and souls, shines a bright beacon on the moral poverty of those of us that think ourselves above it all ... {more}
